The Saranac area is an exciting area. It is central to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, and Plattsburgh, which is undergoing a revitalization including Lake Champlain shoreline development, and the prospect of a new NASCAR race track at the presently in use Clinton Country Airport.  The FAA has committed funding for the old Plattsburgh Air Force Base (closed about 7-8 years ago) to turn it into a commercial airport.  The base sports a 12,000' runway and can handle 747 Jumbo traffic which would put it into position for trans-oceanic flights!
